Halle/Saale – Diakoniewerk

When the Protestant Deaconess Institution was founded in 1857, we were reminded of the words of Jesus: "As you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me." (Matthew 25:40)

Since 1996, the institution has been working under the designation "Diakoniewerk Halle".

The focus of today's work is support for old people in two retirement homes and several apartments suitable for older people and the Diakoniekrankenhaus Halle (diaconal hospital). The emergency hospital is structured into seven clinics with the main fields in visceral and thorax surgery as well as pneumology, gastroenterology, geriatrics and psychosomatics. With the centers for gastroenterology and pulmonary cancer, we have two certified centers in our portfolio. The Diakoniekrankenhaus is an academic teaching hospital of the Martin-Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg.

Since 1991, the Diakoniewerk also includes the Poliklinik Reil, one of the largest medical support centers in Saxony-Anhalt in the style of a polyclinic. The Diakoniewerk also operates a training center for nursing professions, a day care center and a residential home with a workshop for 24 people with disabilities.

Today, the Deaconesses of the Diakoniewerk Halle are retired and are engaged in volunteer work in the Diakoniewerk. The Diakoniegemeinschaft (diaconal community), founded in 1996, is another religious community within the Diakoniewerk.
