Witten – Diakoniewerk Ruhr
The "Diakonissenhaus für die Grafschaft Mark und das Siegerland" was founded in the Ruhr Region in 1890. It still has a great tradition and a good reputation in the region for the training of qualified personnel in nursing and education. Guided by the respective social needs and the challenges in the society at the time, they have innovatively developed different focal points of work.
Due to changes in the pension scheme in the 1970s, the Sisterhood, who spiritually carries the entire organization, was able to give new internal and external impulses to a re-structured deaconess training and to the deaconate discussion they had initiated. The cooperation with the Ev. Martineumsgemeinschaft can also look back at 40 years of tradition.
Since 2005, the foundation and the Inner Mission Bochum have been consolidating their fields of work in the joint holding company Diakonie Ruhr. Together with other Protestant hospitals they form the Evangelischer Verbund Ruhr today.
