Remscheid – Evangelische Stiftung Tannenhof
The Protestant Tannenhof Foundation was founded on the initiative of Georg Wilhelm Hafner, later President of the Protestant Church in Rhineland. From the beginning, the ministration was intended for people with emotional disorders or disabilities. The foundation established the third Deaconess Mother House and the second Deacon Institution in the Rhineland region.
Following the reforms in psychiatry in the 1970s, the institution was transformed into a modern specialized hospital for psychiatry, psychotherapy, psychosomatics and neurology and it took over the mandatory psychiatric care services for the cities of Wuppertal and Remscheid with a total of about 500,000 inhabitants.
In the 1980s, socio-psychiatric impulses were taken up and an independent care home section was developed. Today, with the challenges of inclusion, decentralization and structural renewal is actively promoted.
The diaconal community of the Protestant Tannenhof Foundation and the Protestant church community within the Tannenhof foundation provide the diaconal profile for the entire foundation.
