The Kaiserswerther Generalkonferenz celebrates its 150th anniversary in 2011

At their meeting in Bergen, the Executive Committee of Kaiserswerther Generalkonferenz (KGK) decides the motto and the organization of the celebrations for the 150th anniversary of the KGK in Kaiserswerth in October 2011.

During their meeting on February 24 and 25, 2011, in Bergen (NO), the Executive Committee of the KGK decided upon "In diaconal community – world-wide for others" as the topic of the upcoming 41st General Assembly of the Kaiserswerther Generalkonferenz (KGK). From October 8 through 11, 2011, the association of more than 100 deaconess houses, diaconal communities and diaconal organizations from Europe, North and South America and Asia will celebrate its 150th anniversary. The meeting will take place in Kaiserswerth near Düsseldorf (D).

The President of the Gemeinschaft Evangelischer Kirchen in Europa (GEKE), Pastor Dr. h.c. Thomas Wipf (CH) will hold the commemorative sermon. Among others, Nikolaus Schneider, President of the Council of Protestant Churches in Germany (EKD), will deliver words of greeting to the General Conference. The ceremonial address will be given by Dr. Annette Leis (University of Uppsala). A commemorative publication will be released for the 150th anniversary of the General Conference. The topic is: "Remembrance of Deaconess Mother Houses based on the Kaiserswerth Model and Perspectives of Successful Mother House Diakonie". The conference will be thematically guided by a "spiritual-liturgical ribbon", which was developed by Dr. Reinhild Traitler (CH) and several sisterhoods. The ribbon will place a special spiritual highlight on the event. Furthermore, the participants in the conference will, among other things, presented and asked to vote on an updated fundamental order and new electoral rules of the Kaiserswerther Generalkonferenz.

In parallel to the meeting, former abbots, mothers superior and retired business directors of the KGK member organizations are invited to participate in their own Program in Kaiserswerth, which will be organized and carried out by the local Fliedner-Kulturstiftung. More than fifty people from all over the world have already registered for this separate program.
