The Executive Committee of the Kaiserswerther Generalkonferenz (KGK) meets the political representatives of Diakonie and Church towards the EU Institutions in Brussels.

On February 25 and 26, 2010, the Executive Committee of the Kaiserswerther Generalkonferenz (KGK) met in Brussels. At this occasion, the executive body of the association of more than 100 diaconal institutions from Europe, America and Asia had talks with the representatives of Diakonie and Church towards the political institutions of the European Union.

"We need a representation of the interests of Diakonie towards the EU institutions", said KGK President Christof Naef (Bern). They provide a "valuable double service: The observation and evaluation of the legal and social politics of the EU on the one hand and the preparation of the European legislation for the national level on the other hand". The KGK is interested in an "intensive and fruitful cooperation" with the European representatives of the Diakonie, said Naef.

Das European Year 2010 against Poverty and Social Exclusion was one of the topics of the meeting with Heather Roy, Secretary General of Eurodiakonia, Katharina Wegner, the representative of Diakonisches Werk der Evangelischen Kirche in Deutschland (EKD) at the European Union, Katrin Hatzinger, head of the Brussels office of EKD and Dieter Heidtmann of the Commission for Church and Society of the Conference of European Churches (KEK). The Executive Committee of the KGK also met the Delegate of the European Parliament, Thomas Mann, for another conversation.

The upcoming General Assembly of the KGK from October 8 through 11, 2011, was one of the topics of the business-related part of the Executive Committee meeting. It will focus on perspectives and future challenges for the KGK and will commemorate the 150th anniversary of the General Conference with a ceremonial act.
The next meeting of the KGK Executive Committee will take place on October 25 and 26, 2010, in Kaiserswerth.
