The international Kaiserswerth network is strengthened

A bilingual web presence and a "Study Tour 2017 – Health Care in the USA" strengthen the international network of the Kaiserswerther Generalkonferenz.
The Executive Committee of the Kaiserswerther Generalkonferenz met on October 6 and 7, 2017, at the invitation of their Finnish member houses in Helsinki and Lahti. The members of the Executive Committee were guests of Helsingin Diakonissalaitos, led by Director Olli Holmström, and of Diakonialaitos Lahti, which is led by Dirctor Tiina Mäkelä. The host houses described the special challenges for diaconal organizations in Finland and their activities, the care for homeless people for instance.
Next year, the web presence www.kaiserswerther-generalkonferenz.org will be modernized. The website will then be bilingual, German and English, and will feature a lively appearance, news articles from the General Conference and information about the 100 member houses in Europe, America, Asia and Africa. The website will be optimized for smart phones and tablets.
The Executive Committee addressed the planning for the upcoming diaconal study tour to New York City in fall 2017. The focus of the tour is gaining insights into the American healthcare system by visiting various hospitals, public care facilities, educational institutions and historic health care places. Parts of the agenda are, among others, visits at the Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center, the NYU Lutheran Medical Center, founded in 1883 by a Norwegian Deaconess, and the Blythedal Children’s Hospital.
The Executive Committee also discussed initial plans for the 43rd General Conference, which will take place in Bielefeld-Bethel in 2018 at the invitation of the von Bodelschwinghschen Stiftungen.
The Kaiserswerther Generalkonferenz is an association of more than 100 Deaconess Houses, diaconal communities and diaconal organizations from Europe, Nord and South America, Asia and Africa.
